At the Jan. 17 meeting of the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville Kendralyn Matonic of Brocton Central School, Emily Brown of Chautauqua Lake Central School, and Alaina Cockram of Westfield Academy and Central School were given recognition as “Scholars of the Month.” These outstanding students were nominated to receive this honor by officials in their respective school districts.
Present at this dinner meeting, which was held at The Parkview in Westfield, were Rotarians, including representatives from the local school districts, and also parents of these high school seniors. The honorees were introduced by Rotarians Dan Smith and Luci Petrella. Each of the students received a framed certificate and a Rotary pen, which were awarded to them by Mike Harrington, Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club President.
Kendralyn Matonic, who is the daughter of Laura Matonic and Mark Matonic, maintains a cumulative GPA of 94.3. She is a hardworking student who loves science, music and history. Matonic was inducted in the Science National Honor Society, and also was selected for several science-based honors and awards, including the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence during her junior year.
