When I’m not in Washington, I like to make sure I’m up-to-date on what’s going on in the area. Last week, I did this by meeting with constituents, students and teachers, local leaders, business owners, employees and Texas National Guard members. I spent the early part of last week in the Corpus Christi area, and the second half of the week in the northern area of the district.
To start off the week, I opened the Google Online Safety Roadshow at Flour Bluff Intermediate School by speaking to students about the importance of internet safety. The assembly taught how to create a safe and memorable password, how to identify phishing scams, how internet posts last forever and much more. I also visited Incarnate Word Academy to hold a Congress in the Classroom, where the elementary students asked better questions than some reporters! At Calallen High School, I recognized the accomplishments of two great coaches: Coach Steve Chapman and Coach Phil Danaher. Coach Chapman was recently inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Hall of Fame and Coach Danaher recently became the winningest football coach in Texas state history. I also presented certificates to two outstanding science students, Austin Thompson and Parker Tennill, who received scholarships to attend The Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Massachusetts.
