Sahuarita freshman heads to conference

Jackson Powell, a ninth grader at Sahuarita High School, is a delegate to the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Lowell, Massachusetts this week.

The honors-only program is for high schoolers interested in STEM subjects — science, technology, engineering or math.

Powell was nominated by Dr. John C. Mather, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics and Science Director of the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists, based on academic achievement, leadership potential and passion for the subject.

He’ll join students from around the country and hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science recipients talk about leading scientific research, receive advice from deans from the world’s top tech universities, meet fellow teen science prodigies and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future of the field.
